How Gross-to-Net Salary Is Calculated in Kenya
Converting gross salary to net (take-home) pay in Kenya means subtracting four statutory deductions from your cash gross: NSSF pension contributions (6% across Tier I and Tier II), the SHIF health contribution (2.75% of gross, minimum KES 300), the Affordable Housing Levy (1.5%), and PAYE income tax calculated on what's left after those deductions. Non-cash benefits like an employer-provided car or housing don't add to your cash gross, but they do increase your taxable pay, so they raise your PAYE bill without changing your take-home cash directly.
What deductions come out of my gross salary in Kenya?
In order: NSSF (6%), SHIF (2.75%, KES 300 floor), Housing Levy (1.5%), then PAYE on the remaining taxable pay. What's left is your net take-home pay.
