Umeir Mohamed, founder of gsyncd

Umeir Mohamed is a senior web developer and the founder of gsyncd, a software company based in Mombasa, Kenya, which he co-founded with his brother. He builds ERPsyncd, payroll, HR and accounting software for Kenyan businesses, and LMSyncd, a school management system for schools in Kenya and Pakistan.

He is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Data Science at the University of Milano-Bicocca in Milan, Italy.

What he builds

  • ERPsyncd: cloud payroll, HR and accounting software that calculates PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, the Housing Levy and NITA and produces M-Pesa and bank payment files.
  • LMSyncd: a school management system for single schools and multi-campus networks, covering student records, fee billing, CBC and board grading and teacher payroll.
  • Free Kenya payroll calculators: 11 free tools, including PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, gross-to-net salary and the one-third salary rule.

Background

Umeir has been building for the web since 2019. He started with hand-written HTML and CSS, then spent the following years as a WordPress and web developer, building websites and custom web applications for businesses and working as a freelancer with international clients. He currently works as a senior web developer for a company in Pakistan.

Wanting to build something bigger of his own, he started gsyncd with his brother, beginning with a simple Kenyan payroll calculator that grew into ERPsyncd and LMSyncd.

He is now expanding into data science, building end-to-end projects in Python with Pandas, NumPy and scikit-learn alongside his master’s studies.
